Dragonfly Love

Posted in Challenges, It's your Birthday at 6:22 pm by happygiggles

What a busy day!  I managed to accomplish a lot!  I baked a batch of cookies, vacuumed, washed the floors, cleaned the bathrooms, bought groceries, took in some clothes to a consignment shop, made the card below, and did and experiment.  The experiment was to do with a recipe.  I found a recipe I liked in my new What’s Cooking magazine and thought I would try freezing it into two dinners.  All I have to do is pull it out and cook it!  Great for a night when I don’t feel like cooking much!

Well onto the previously mentioned card!

I just love this dragonfly stamp!  Cheers me up everytime I look at it!  This my my attempt at the Technique challenge using paper tole.  I stamped the image three times.  the first one is flat on the card, the second on foam tape, and the third is just the body popped out with foam tape.  Here’s a close up:

To go along with the sparkly patterned paper, I added Stickles around all the edges of the dragonfly.  The sentiment is actually a sticker I recently got in a package from the dollar store!

Recipe:

Stamps: Doodle wings by Stampendous
Paper: green Bazzill Bling, Barely Banana, Whisper white
Ink: black Staz on
Accessories: sticker sentiment, water colour pencils, blender pen, Stickles

Field of Poppies

Posted in Just Because at 6:02 pm by happygiggles

At first I wasn’t sure I really liked how this card turned out but now, I’m quite pleased!  This was the card I made for the Featured Stamper challenge on Splitcoast.  The featured stamper this week was Laura of Scrapnextras.  I actually found it easy this time around to chose one card to case.  But only because I had been admiring this card of hers!  All her cards are fabulous!

I started this card with a base of River Rock, then layered on some Ruby Red that I first stamped with the Delight in Life background stamp.  I stamped all the poppies from Oh, So lovely in black Staz on ink then colored them in using an orange water colour pencil.  I outlined each flower with a red water colour pencil to add a bit of zip.  The larger poppies all have a bit of Stickles added.  The sentiment is a SU! rub on that I liked.  since I don’t have anything to punch ovals, I used my corner rounder and a pair of scissors.  Now on my list is an oval punch!

Thanks for looking!

Recipe:

Stamps: Delight in Life, Oh, So Lovely
Paper: Whisper white, river Rock, Ruby Red
Ink: Whisper white craft, black Staz on
Accessories: crystal rhinestone, SU! rub on, water colour pencils, blender pen, corner rounder

Inspired Sketch

Posted in Challenges, Just Because at 4:13 pm by happygiggles

This card is a combination of the inspiration challenge at Splitcoast and Beate’s Weekend Sketch!  This week for the inspiration challenge we were to find inspiration from anything in our own home.  I chose this picture:

I just love the yellows and the reds.  My two favorite colours in my home!  For the card, I knew I had to make a piece of red paper the focal point since that’s what my eyes are drawn to first in the picture.  I tried to incorporate the sky and the yellow sand in the pieces behind the red paper.  I used the background stamp from Oh, So Lovely and some clear embossing powder to try and give the effect of rain. (water anyways!)  I decided to use the flower from Delight in life with some black embossing powder on the red focal point.  All the layers underneath are meant to be the frame.

Recipe:

Stamps: Delight in Life, Oh, So Lovely
Paper: Basic Black, real red, Sahara Sand, Very Vanilla, Barely Banana
Ink: Versamark
Accessories: dew drops, black eyelets, clear and black embossing powder, corner rounder

Birthday Bella!

Posted in Challenges, It's your Birthday at 5:13 pm by happygiggles

This was my card for the Sketch challenge at Splitcoast.  We were to use, for the image part, a piece of paper no wider than 1 1/2″ wide.  The length didn’t matter.  My Birthday Bella fit perfectly of this piece of paper so that’s what I used!  The card base is made out of Ruby Red.  It went perfectly with the patterned paper by Basic Gray I had.  All the layers have Chocolate Chip underneath.  The Bella was simply coloured in with my fall colored chalks.  I also thought the whisper White was too with so I coloured those edges with the brown chalk.  Though this isn’t one of my favorite cards, I still love the colours and the simplicity of it.

Recipe:

Stamps: Bella and sentiment both from Stamping Bella
Paper: Ruby Red, Chocolate chip, whisper white, patterned paper from Basic Gray
Ink: Chocolate chip
Accessories: Bronze brads, chalks

Sky Blue White

Man!  It’s hard to stay on top of all the great challenges out there since I’ve started to work again!  I end up doing most of them when I find time one evening!  This week has been especially busy since I decided to have a garage sale today with my Grandma!  I’m quite happy with the profit though!  I may just have to browse for more stamping stuff!

Here you have the card I made for the color challenge at Splitcoast.  The colours this week were Whisper White, Soft Sky, and Basic Gray.  I love this combination!  The base of the card is basic gray with some soft sky that I stamped one of the background stamps from Boho Backgrounds all over in soft Sky ink.  Same with the bottom whisper White, flowers are in Soft Sky.  I finally pulled out my silver cording from SU! that I bought at Christmas time.  Love that stuff too!  For the main image I cut the basic gray with my scalloped scissors layered on some soft sky and whisper white after I rounder the corners.  I stamped the Simply Said flowers in black Staz on then colored them in with a blue water color pencil.  I added to white gel pen dots as an after thought because it just needed something else!  And I’ve been wanting to use that pen since I finally found one!

Recipe:

Stamps: Boho Backgrounds, Simply Said
Paper: Whisper white, Soft Sky, Basic Gray
Ink: Soft Sky, Black Staz On
Accessories: silver elastic cording from SU!, scalloped scissors, white gel pen, water colour pencils, blender pen

For Baby

Posted in Baby, Challenges at 6:36 pm by happygiggles

I love Sunday’s at Splitcoast because it’s the featured stamper challenge day!  This week happened to me Amy from Pickled Paper Designs.  I just love Amy’s cards.  All of them!  It was so hard for me to chose just one to case, but I ended up going with this one:  Live Your Dream Thanks.  This is what mine ended up being:

I changed the blue and basically reversed the colours.  A friend of mine is expecting a baby boy in June so I thought I would make this for her using my new baby stamp from Stamping Bella.  Isn’t it cute?  I believe everything else is pretty self explanitory

 Recipe:

Stamps: baby from Stamping Bella, background stamp from Boho Backgrounds
Paper: Soft sky, Always Artichoke, Barely Banana, Whisper White
Ink: Versamagic (spanish olive), soft sky
Accessories: white eyelets, corner rounder, soft sky double stitched ribbon, SU! rub on

I Love Flowers

This card is my try at Jen Del Muro’s a Sketch For You to Try.  I’m quite pleased with how it turned out!  Only took me a couple of hours, geesh!  The card base is a tan Bazzill Bling.  Love that stuff!  Next I layered on some chocolate chip, a layer of whisper white, which I scalloped the bottom edge then a piece of chocolate satin ribbon!  The squares are a piece of chocolate chip with a layer of this cute flower patterned paper that I got from Michael’s a while ago.  And those little white (ivory actually) flowers you see?  A find I came across in Michael’s as well!  In the wedding section!  They’re actually table confetti but I thought they would make great embellishments!  They offered white and ivory coloured ones with and amazing shimmer!  I opted for the ivory since I’m an ivory kinda girl!  (My wedding dress was a shade of ivory)

Here they are:

My finishing touches were the large flower stamp from Delight in Life stamped in Chocolate chip over a circle of soft sky, then the three bronze brads!

Recipe:

Stamps: Delight in Life
Paper: tan Bazzill Bling, chocolate chip, whisper white, patterned paper from Michaels, soft sky
Ink: Chocolate chip
Accessories: bronze brads, flower confetti from Michael’s, chocolate satin ribbon, square and circle punch, scalloped scissors, flower brad

Two For One

Posted in Challenges, Just Because at 6:23 pm by happygiggles

Today’s challenge at Splitcoast was to use only one stamp set, white or vanilla cardstock, up to two other colors of cardstock and one patterned paper to make a couple of cards.  Easy peasy.  Well, it would have been if my brain was working properly.  Anyways, I’m quite pleased with how they turned out!

This was the first one I made.  Using Purely pomegranate, light blue bazzill, whisper white, and some patterned paper from Michael’s I put my theme together.  I was initially going to use a different stamp but I decided it wouldn’t work.  I used some scalloped scissors for the bottom edge of the polka dot paper. Then I added the fabulous double stitched ribbon from SU! in Soft Sky.  The flowers were colored in using my water color pencils and a blender pen.  I added the brads in the end just to anchor the whole thing!

And here’s the second one!  I don’t like it as much.  It’s just to plain, even for me!  Do you have any suggestions?  Everything in this card is the same as the above one just the layout is different.

Recipe:

Stamps: Blooming with Love
Paper: Whisper white, purely pomegranate, light blue Bazzill, patterned paper from Michael’s
Ink: Chocolate chip
Accessories: Soft sky ribbon, bronze brads, water color pencils, blender pen, scalloped scissors

A Mini

Posted in Uncategorized at 6:48 pm by happygiggles

I’m still here!  But honestly, I’ve ended up with a bad cold and I’ve also started back to my seasonal job at a local golf course on Monday!  Talk about being tired!  I’m just not used to all the fresh air.  I thought I had won the winter cold battle since I haven’t had one since last summer, but alas, it waits until I’m back to work.  Everything all at once!

Needless to say, I haven’t been making any cards.  I did find this one though that I haven’t posted yet.  It was for a limited supply challenge using only scraps.  It also had to be a mini card.

This was my version of the Limited Supplies challenge LSC158.  It’s actually amazing how many scraps one can accumulate!  I should do this more often!  This card is 4 1/4″ square.  The card base is wild wasabi with some light blue patterned paper layered over top.  I stamped the whisper white with one of the background stamps from boho backgrounds.  Also, the strip of light blue is stamped with a background stamp from the same set.  The flowers are from A Beautiful Thing, cut out then added with some foam tape and a flower brad through the middle.

Recipe:

Stamps: Boho Backgrounds, A Beautiful Thing
Paper: wild wasabi, purely pomegranate, whisper white, light blue patterned paper from Costco slab, navy (?)
Ink: Purely pomegranate, soft sky
Accessories: corner rounder, silver flower brads, silver eyelets, foam tape, circle punch

Mr. Owl

Posted in Challenges, Just Because at 7:18 pm by happygiggles

Isn’t he cute?  I’m sure it’s a he.  He just looks like one!  I did this card for Jen’s sketch challenge of i{heart}2stamp.  I really liked the sketch so I wanted to give it a try!  I had wanted to use this combination of papers for one of the challenges last week on Splitcoast, but ended up doing something different

For this card I started with a whisper white base, then added the light blue and the patterned paper.  The strips are simply a bit of chocolate chip with a coordinating piece of patterned paper.  Since I used my largest circle punch for the owl piece, I traced the bottom of a cup to make the brown circle!  Last touches were the crystal rhinestones.

Recipe:

Stamps: a stamp from the dollar bin at Michael’s
Paper: whisper white, chocolate chip, light blue Bazzill, patterned paper from Costco slab
Ink: chocolate chip
Accessories: crystal rhinestones, circle punch
