I have no Excuse!

Posted in It's your Birthday at 7:36 pm by happygiggles

Well, other than I haven’t been feeling very creative.  Just feeling tired!  I do have a card to show you though!  Actually two, but I’ll make another post for the other one.

I realize it looks pretty similar to the card in the post below, but I kinda liked that card so I thought I would make another one!  This one was for my husband’s Grandma’s 80th this past weekend.  She loved it!  My initial plan for this card was to use the Splitcoast colour challenge using Chocolate chip, sage, and very vanilla.  But that got changed because I really wanted to use the Live Your Dreams stamp set and I only have River Rock ink for a green.  So, I used River Rock paper!  I also wanted to use my Cuttlebug because I know people love the effect of the embossing.

Hope you enjoyed it!

Dreamy Birthday

Posted in It's your Birthday at 9:01 pm by happygiggles

I’m still around!  Although I haven’t been making many cards!  I’m blaming it on the fact that I’m now getting up early for work. (4 am!)  In this situation, my husband gets all my extra energy!  He needs dinner you know.

But, since it is my Grandma’s birthday tomorrow, I made her a card using the Live your Dream set that I just got!

She loved it!  I gave it to her today since we went for brunch for Mother’s Day and I won’t see her tomorrow.  For this card I started with a blush blossom base then added some River Rock and some patterned paper out of my Costco slab.  I used river rock and groovy guava ink for the stamped flower image.  I think I’m going to put Blush blossom ink on my wish list.  I really like that colour!  The butterfly is stamped in chocolate chip on the same patterned paper with Close to Cocoa underneath.  Before I attached the stamped images, I added some white satin ribbon to the scalloped River Rock piece.  the final touch was the two rhinestones!

Recipe:
Stamps: Live your Dream, birthday sentiment from Stamping Bella
Paper: Blush blossom, river rock, whisper white, close to cocoa, patterned paper from Costco slab
Ink: Chocolate chip, River Rock, Groovy guava
Accessories: white ribbon, rhinestones, scalloped scissors, circle punches

Sparkly Butterfly

Posted in Challenges, It's your Birthday at 11:01 am by happygiggles

I quite like this card!  The colours make me happy!  The colour scheme actually came from kwernerdesign blog.  You should really check her blog out.  Each week she posts a new colour challenge for anyone to try out!   But this card is really for the Featured Stamper challenge featuring Michelle – aka Sf9erfan on Splitcoast.  I decided to case this card:  Silly Butterfly.

I obviously changed the colours and I didn’t add the white dots.  I also just bought one of Martha Stewart’s butterfly punches (love it!) so I thought this was the perfect excuse to use it!

The card base is Sahara Sand with some whisper white and Pumpkin pie layered over top.  The swirls are stamped in Certainly Celery on some Whisper white which is over top of some So Saffron, Certainly Celery, and Pumpkin Pie.  The butterflies are punched out of the same colours then I added the rhinestones to the body and then Stickled the wings!  I love the sparkle!

Recipe:

Stamps: Season of Joy, not sure where the birthday sentiment is from
Paper: Sahara sand, Whisper white, Pumpkin Pie, So saffron, certainly celery
Ink: Certainly celery
Accessories: rhinestones, white satin ribbon, Stickles, butterfly punch

Flowers for Your Birthday

Posted in Challenges, It's your Birthday at 9:09 pm by happygiggles

Hello again!  I’m back today with the card I made for the Sketch challenge at Splitcoast.  I just loved this sketch!  Gave me a chance to use some patterned paper!  Notice I didn’t use my Cuttlebug.  See…I’m not completely obsessed!

Anywho, I started this card with a layer of dark brown from Papersource then added a bit of River Rock then the patterned paper!  I got the left hand side paper from Michael’s recently.  The other flower paper is from my local scrapbook store.  The strip with the sentiment is simply, more brown with more river rock then a touch of very Vanilla.  The layers with the stamped flowers are brown, then some Blush blossom, and some more Very Vanilla.  I coloured in the flowers with my water colour pencils then blended them with my blender pen.  Oh yeah, there’s a bit of chocolate satin ribbon running through the middle.  I didn’t like the gaps that were there, so I covered them up!

Thanks for looking!

Embossed Lovely

Posted in Challenges, It's your Birthday at 9:22 pm by happygiggles

Hello!

This card below, is the card I made for the featured Stamper Challenge.  Featuring  Jodi, aka Kharmagirl on Splitcoast.  Again, another amazing gallery!  I was initially going to do a different card but then I saw this one and thought I could do a decent job!  I do not have the Kind thoughts set (but wish I did) and since I’m obsessed with my Cuttlebug and had the perfect folder (in my opinion) for the center, that’s what I did!

I changed the River Rock on Jodi’s to Sahara Sand on mine.  Also, I obviously used my Cuttlebug to emboss two layers instead of scoring and stamping.  Another change I made was the size of the card.  I just made it the standard size.  After I embossed the center piece I realized that I should have tried the negative effect technique so I tried to put a bit of white ink on the raised parts after the fact.  Sort of worked!  I did stamp a birthday sentiment from Stamping Bella on the bottom edge in Whisper White but it’s kinda hard to see in the photo!

Thanks for looking!

All Handmade

Posted in Challenges, It's your Birthday, Weekend Sketch at 11:48 am by happygiggles

Again, I managed to combine two challenges!  Well, I guess only one challenge and a sketch!  The Sketch is Beate’s Weekend Sketch.  Love the simplicity!  For the challenge aspect I used the Limited Supplies challenge at Splitcoast where we wereto create our own patterned paper!  So much fun!  I will definitely be doing this again!

To make the patterned paper, I started with a base of whisper white then stamped the background stamp from Oh, So Lovely all over.  Next, I pulled out one of the flower stamps from Best blossoms and stamped that randomly in Soft Sky.  Finally, I added the flourish from Season of Joy in Not Quite Navy then added a dot of Stickles in the center of each flower.  I love it!

Since I love my new Cuttlebug, I thought I would use it for the Certainly Celery piece on the side to add a bit more interest.  I used my scalloped scissors on the edge first before I ran it through.  The birthday sentiment is layered over top some Soft Sky and Blue Bayou paper!

There you have it!

Recipe:

Stamps: Oh, So Lovely, Season of Joy, Best Blossoms
Paper: Whisper white, certainly celery, soft sky, blue bayou
Ink: certainly celery, not quite navy, soft sky
Accessories: silver eyelets, soft sky ribbon, corner rounder, Stickles, Cuttlebug, scalloped scissors

Dragonfly Love

Posted in Challenges, It's your Birthday at 6:22 pm by happygiggles

What a busy day!  I managed to accomplish a lot!  I baked a batch of cookies, vacuumed, washed the floors, cleaned the bathrooms, bought groceries, took in some clothes to a consignment shop, made the card below, and did and experiment.  The experiment was to do with a recipe.  I found a recipe I liked in my new What’s Cooking magazine and thought I would try freezing it into two dinners.  All I have to do is pull it out and cook it!  Great for a night when I don’t feel like cooking much!

Well onto the previously mentioned card!

I just love this dragonfly stamp!  Cheers me up everytime I look at it!  This my my attempt at the Technique challenge using paper tole.  I stamped the image three times.  the first one is flat on the card, the second on foam tape, and the third is just the body popped out with foam tape.  Here’s a close up:

To go along with the sparkly patterned paper, I added Stickles around all the edges of the dragonfly.  The sentiment is actually a sticker I recently got in a package from the dollar store!

Birthday Bella!

Posted in Challenges, It's your Birthday at 5:13 pm by happygiggles

This was my card for the Sketch challenge at Splitcoast.  We were to use, for the image part, a piece of paper no wider than 1 1/2″ wide.  The length didn’t matter.  My Birthday Bella fit perfectly of this piece of paper so that’s what I used!  The card base is made out of Ruby Red.  It went perfectly with the patterned paper by Basic Gray I had.  All the layers have Chocolate Chip underneath.  The Bella was simply coloured in with my fall colored chalks.  I also thought the whisper White was too with so I coloured those edges with the brown chalk.  Though this isn’t one of my favorite cards, I still love the colours and the simplicity of it.

Recipe:

Stamps: Bella and sentiment both from Stamping Bella
Paper: Ruby Red, Chocolate chip, whisper white, patterned paper from Basic Gray
Ink: Chocolate chip
Accessories: Bronze brads, chalks

Sweet!

Posted in Challenges, It's your Birthday, Weekend Sketch at 4:16 pm by happygiggles

For this card I combined two challenges!  The inspiration challenge at Splitcoast along with Beate’s weekend sketch.  I took my inspiration from this image:

Dylan's Candy Bar Sweet Capri

Then Beate’s layout is this:

wsc-_39.jpg

I ended up flipping the sketch so I could make this card:

Sweet, huh?  🙂  When I saw the ‘sweet’ printed on the pants I immediately thought of those chipboard letters, which I never use!  And then because the inspiration website was related to all things candy, I wanted bright colors.  The sparkly patterned paper was very useful for this since I don’t have any large image stamps.

To incorporate the sketch, I added the celebrate you stamp to the corner.  Then added lots of Stickles.  I’m not too sure if I really like that being in the corner.  I kinda like it with just the patterned paper a the letters!  It is growing on me though.  Thanks for looking!

Recipe:

Stamps: Figures of Speech
Paper: pink Bazzill, patterned paper from Michael’s, navy scraps, wild wasabi scrap, whisper white
Ink: Chocolate chip
Accessories: Stickles, Sparkly chipboard letters (from a Dollar Store), corner rounder

No Tools!

Posted in Challenges, It's your Birthday at 9:51 am by happygiggles

For today’s limited supply challenge at Splitcoast, we weren’t allowed to use any tools.  No punches, no fancy scissors, no Crop-a-dile, no heat embossing…etc.  I almost messed up when I went to grab my corner rounder and realized, it’s a tool!  With the limitations today, I thought i would do another simple card.

I wanted to use the Oh, So Lovely set again but felt that it didn’t need coloring this time.  I used a spring green patterned paper for the entire background, then layered on some whisper white stamped with the background stamp from the set in Certainly Celery.  I think this was the first time I used the double stitched Soft Sky ribbon for any project!  I love it and need to use it more!
