Embossed Lovely

Posted in Challenges, It's your Birthday at 9:22 pm by happygiggles

Hello!

This card below, is the card I made for the featured Stamper Challenge.  Featuring  Jodi, aka Kharmagirl on Splitcoast.  Again, another amazing gallery!  I was initially going to do a different card but then I saw this one and thought I could do a decent job!  I do not have the Kind thoughts set (but wish I did) and since I’m obsessed with my Cuttlebug and had the perfect folder (in my opinion) for the center, that’s what I did!

I changed the River Rock on Jodi’s to Sahara Sand on mine.  Also, I obviously used my Cuttlebug to emboss two layers instead of scoring and stamping.  Another change I made was the size of the card.  I just made it the standard size.  After I embossed the center piece I realized that I should have tried the negative effect technique so I tried to put a bit of white ink on the raised parts after the fact.  Sort of worked!  I did stamp a birthday sentiment from Stamping Bella on the bottom edge in Whisper White but it’s kinda hard to see in the photo!

Thanks for looking!

Stamps: birthday sentiment from Stamping Bella

All Handmade

Posted in Challenges, It's your Birthday, Weekend Sketch at 11:48 am by happygiggles

Again, I managed to combine two challenges!  Well, I guess only one challenge and a sketch!  The Sketch is Beate’s Weekend Sketch.  Love the simplicity!  For the challenge aspect I used the Limited Supplies challenge at Splitcoast where we wereto create our own patterned paper!  So much fun!  I will definitely be doing this again!

To make the patterned paper, I started with a base of whisper white then stamped the background stamp from Oh, So Lovely all over.  Next, I pulled out one of the flower stamps from Best blossoms and stamped that randomly in Soft Sky.  Finally, I added the flourish from Season of Joy in Not Quite Navy then added a dot of Stickles in the center of each flower.  I love it!

Since I love my new Cuttlebug, I thought I would use it for the Certainly Celery piece on the side to add a bit more interest.  I used my scalloped scissors on the edge first before I ran it through.  The birthday sentiment is layered over top some Soft Sky and Blue Bayou paper!

There you have it!

Recipe:

Stamps: Oh, So Lovely, Season of Joy, Best Blossoms
Paper: Whisper white, certainly celery, soft sky, blue bayou
Ink: certainly celery, not quite navy, soft sky
Accessories: silver eyelets, soft sky ribbon, corner rounder, Stickles, Cuttlebug, scalloped scissors

Two for Ya!

Posted in Challenges, Just Because, Weekend Sketch at 10:21 pm by happygiggles

Whew!  Am I ever glad it’s Friday!  I’m so ready for the weekend.  It’s been one of those weeks where I just can’t seem to get caught up on anything and have to force myself to stay up until 10pm!  Mind you, I have been sleeping very well!  Tomorrow, my husband and I are going golfing!  My first game in a good year!  Yikes.  Hopefully, the rest of the weekend will be fairly low key.

Since I’m behind on posting my cards, I thought I would just put the two I haven’t posted yet into one post!  I’m trying to be efficient!

First one:

This card was made for the Featured Stamper challenge at Splitcoast last weekend.  I really wanted to use the big rub on flower from the Eastern Elegance set of rub ons since I’ve finally gotten over my phobia of using them!  I love the effect!  The colours came from the patterned paper.  I just pulled it out, liked it, then used it!  Here’s the card I used from the featured stamper challenge:  SC167

Recipe:

Stamps:  None!
Paper: Purely pomegranate, Apricot appeal, patterned paper from Michael’s
Ink: None
Accessories: crystal rhinestone, white eyelets, white satin ribbon, rub on, a glass (for the circle behind the flower)

Second card:

I had to wait to post this one because I made it for my Aunt who has not been feeling well and I need to wait until she got it since I think she reads my blog!  (She really liked it!)  The inspiration for this card comes from the inspiration challenge at Splitcoast as well as Beate’s Weekend Sketch from last week.  I also just received my scallop punch which was on back order so I had to use it!

Recipe:

Stamps: Boho backgrounds, Thoughtful florals by Verve Visual
Paper: Certainly celery, wild wasabi, Blue Bayou, whisper white
Ink: Versamark, chocolate chip
Accessories: dew drops, scallop punch, pearl bead, white satin ribbon, circle punch

Here You Go!

Posted in Challenges, Wedding at 8:48 pm by happygiggles

So, I finally made a card using my new Cuttlebug on Monday and am just now getting a chance to post it!  It’s been a bit hectic this week!  The scary part is, it’s only half way through the week!  Actually, I think I should be glad it’s already half way through the week!

Well, onto the card!

I’m quite happy with how it turned out!  I used a couple of challenges for this card.  The first one was the Try a new Technique challenge at Splitcoast which was to use two or more ribbons to ‘stack’.  I used a chocolate brown and an ivory ribbon left over from our wedding.  Love those colours!  The layout actually came from one of Jen Del Muro’s A Sketch for you to Try.  Love the layout!  Another thing I’m quite enjoying about this card is how the swirls in the stamped image go perfectly with the swirls in the dry embossing!  For a bit more elegance I added the crystal rhinestone brads.  I love bling!  (Apparently I love everything today!)

Thanks for looking!

It’s My Birthday…

Posted in Challenges, Just Because at 4:03 pm by happygiggles

and look what I’m getting today!

Yup, a Cuttlebug!  My husband and my parents were extremely kind to me this year!  I’ve been wanting one of these for a while now.  You can guess what my cards will look like from here on out!  Embossing everywhere!  (Not entirely true.)

I do have a card to show you.  Sans embossing.

This card was a combined challenge effort.  I used the limited supply challenge as well as the Ways to use it challenge.  The ways to Use It challenge this week was to use rub ons.  My rub on is the sentiment.  For the Limited Supply challenge, we were only allowed to use white and one other colour.  No black.  I was initially going to use Soft sky because I have that colour ribbon, but in the end, the Purely pomegranate was more appealing!  This card just kinda came into being.  I had the idea in my head for the layout so that was basically the basis for the card.  The three flowers are stamped in white craft ink then embossed in clear powder for a bit of shine and demension.  Which you can’t really see in the picture!  Although the ribbon is not purely pomegranate, it really is closer in colour than what the picture shows!  Really!

Recipe:

Stamps:  Tags on Board, Boho backgrounds
Paper: Whisper white, purely pomegranate
Ink: Whisper white, versamark
Accessories: clear embossing powder, ribbon, rub on, square punch, corner rounder

Spring Fling

Posted in Challenges, Just Because at 9:37 pm by happygiggles

I actually quite enjoyed the colours chosen for the colour challenge this week!  They’re so fresh and Springy!  I’m all about springy right now.  Since I’ve been wanting to try out Jen del Muro’s sketch for this week that’s what I used for the layout!  I just loved this layout.  There were some beautiful examples of this sketch that make mine look pretty pathetic!

I thought that the flower and pot from Blooming with love would work really well with the colours and my largest circle punch I own.  (I used a glass to make the bigger green circle!)  I coloured in the flower and pot with my water colour pencils and blender pen, then topped it off with a layer of Stickles.  I even added Stickles to the edge of the white circle.

The card base is creamy caramel which I stamped a bunch of flowers with versamark in the top left corner.  The green bottom is stamped with a Delight in Life stamp with Whisper White.

The final touch were my dew drops from the floral section of Michael’s.  (Apparently they’re on clearance right now!)

Recipe:

Stamps: Blooming with love, Delight in life
Paper: creamy caramel, cameo coral, Mellow moss, Whisper White, Apricot appeal
Ink: Whisper white, chocolate chip, versamark
Accessories: Dew drops, water colour pencils, blender pen, Stickles, sticker sentiment

Dragonfly Love

Posted in Challenges, It's your Birthday at 6:22 pm by happygiggles

What a busy day!  I managed to accomplish a lot!  I baked a batch of cookies, vacuumed, washed the floors, cleaned the bathrooms, bought groceries, took in some clothes to a consignment shop, made the card below, and did and experiment.  The experiment was to do with a recipe.  I found a recipe I liked in my new What’s Cooking magazine and thought I would try freezing it into two dinners.  All I have to do is pull it out and cook it!  Great for a night when I don’t feel like cooking much!

Well onto the previously mentioned card!

I just love this dragonfly stamp!  Cheers me up everytime I look at it!  This my my attempt at the Technique challenge using paper tole.  I stamped the image three times.  the first one is flat on the card, the second on foam tape, and the third is just the body popped out with foam tape.  Here’s a close up:

To go along with the sparkly patterned paper, I added Stickles around all the edges of the dragonfly.  The sentiment is actually a sticker I recently got in a package from the dollar store!

Recipe:

Stamps: Doodle wings by Stampendous
Paper: green Bazzill Bling, Barely Banana, Whisper white
Ink: black Staz on
Accessories: sticker sentiment, water colour pencils, blender pen, Stickles

Field of Poppies

Posted in Just Because at 6:02 pm by happygiggles

At first I wasn’t sure I really liked how this card turned out but now, I’m quite pleased!  This was the card I made for the Featured Stamper challenge on Splitcoast.  The featured stamper this week was Laura of Scrapnextras.  I actually found it easy this time around to chose one card to case.  But only because I had been admiring this card of hers!  All her cards are fabulous!

I started this card with a base of River Rock, then layered on some Ruby Red that I first stamped with the Delight in Life background stamp.  I stamped all the poppies from Oh, So lovely in black Staz on ink then colored them in using an orange water colour pencil.  I outlined each flower with a red water colour pencil to add a bit of zip.  The larger poppies all have a bit of Stickles added.  The sentiment is a SU! rub on that I liked.  since I don’t have anything to punch ovals, I used my corner rounder and a pair of scissors.  Now on my list is an oval punch!

Thanks for looking!

Recipe:

Stamps: Delight in Life, Oh, So Lovely
Paper: Whisper white, river Rock, Ruby Red
Ink: Whisper white craft, black Staz on
Accessories: crystal rhinestone, SU! rub on, water colour pencils, blender pen, corner rounder

Inspired Sketch

Posted in Challenges, Just Because at 4:13 pm by happygiggles

This card is a combination of the inspiration challenge at Splitcoast and Beate’s Weekend Sketch!  This week for the inspiration challenge we were to find inspiration from anything in our own home.  I chose this picture:

I just love the yellows and the reds.  My two favorite colours in my home!  For the card, I knew I had to make a piece of red paper the focal point since that’s what my eyes are drawn to first in the picture.  I tried to incorporate the sky and the yellow sand in the pieces behind the red paper.  I used the background stamp from Oh, So Lovely and some clear embossing powder to try and give the effect of rain. (water anyways!)  I decided to use the flower from Delight in life with some black embossing powder on the red focal point.  All the layers underneath are meant to be the frame.

Recipe:

Stamps: Delight in Life, Oh, So Lovely
Paper: Basic Black, real red, Sahara Sand, Very Vanilla, Barely Banana
Ink: Versamark
Accessories: dew drops, black eyelets, clear and black embossing powder, corner rounder

Birthday Bella!

Posted in Challenges, It's your Birthday at 5:13 pm by happygiggles

This was my card for the Sketch challenge at Splitcoast.  We were to use, for the image part, a piece of paper no wider than 1 1/2″ wide.  The length didn’t matter.  My Birthday Bella fit perfectly of this piece of paper so that’s what I used!  The card base is made out of Ruby Red.  It went perfectly with the patterned paper by Basic Gray I had.  All the layers have Chocolate Chip underneath.  The Bella was simply coloured in with my fall colored chalks.  I also thought the whisper White was too with so I coloured those edges with the brown chalk.  Though this isn’t one of my favorite cards, I still love the colours and the simplicity of it.

Recipe:

Stamps: Bella and sentiment both from Stamping Bella
Paper: Ruby Red, Chocolate chip, whisper white, patterned paper from Basic Gray
Ink: Chocolate chip
Accessories: Bronze brads, chalks
